  • December 24 - December 30 (Orlando vacation trip):
    • Our family go to Disney world for vacation.
    • We visit Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Lego Land.
    • Nathan has a lot of fun.
    • In Animal Kingdom, we watch "It's Tough to be a Bug!" 4D show, "Festival of the lion King" musical show, "Flights of Wonder" bird show, and "Finding Nemo" musical show. We also take a "Kilimanjaro Safaris" ride to see different animal such as giraffes, gazelles, elephants, rhinos and lions.
    • In Magic Kingdom, we ride "Splash Mountain", "Big Thunder Mountain Railroad", and "Tomorrowland Speedway". We also watch "Stitch's Great Escape!" 4D show and "Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor" show. Of cause, we ride the famous old ride "It's a small world".
    • In Hollywood Studios, we watch "Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular" show, "Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show" car show, "Voyage of The Little Mermaid" musical show, "Beauty and the Beast - Live on Stage" musical show, "Disney Junior - Live on Stage!" show, and "Fantasmic!" show. We ride the "Star Tours" 3D and "Toy Story Midway Mania!" shooting ride.
  • December 23
    • Today, it is one year after Nathan first diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML).
    • Thanks GOD: Everything OK.

  • November 26:
    • This morning, Nathan has his sixth hematology doctor checkup appointment. Thanks GOD: Everything OK.

November 18, 2012 - November 24, 2012
  • November 24:
    • Some of his firends come play xBox 360 with Nathan. They have a lot of fun.
  • November 22 (Thanksgiving:):
    • Today, Nathan marinates the turkey. I will try to upload some pictures later.
    • Nathan has the first homemade turkey leg. It is very tasty. He eats a lot.
  • November 21:
    • Nathan wants to have turkey for the Thanksgiving. We go shopping for a small 15 lbs turkey.
  • November 20:
    • Nathan attends his best friend birthday party. They plays laser tag. This is the first time Nathan plays laser tag. I bet they all have a lot of fun. Since Nathan keeps talking about the game while he is taking a bath.

November 4, 2012 - November 17, 2012
  • November 17:
    • Today, one of Nathan's classmate invites Nathan to her roller skating birthday party. This is the first time Nathan skates.
    • At first, he has a middle speed roller skate shoes. He falls down a lot, but he keeps trying. After a while, one of the worker tells us that he can try to wear low speed roller skate shoes instead. After he changes, he does not fall down that many.
  • November 14:
    • Today is the last day of Nathan swim class. His teacher gives him a report card. He has some improvements. However, he is still not good enough to advance to the next level.

October 28, 2012 - November 3, 2012
  • October 31 (Halloween:):
    • We do not bring Nathan and Jay to treat or trick. However, some kids show up at our house for that. Nathan hands out some chocolate to them.
  • October 30:
    • Finally, Katie brings Nathan to Kumon Learning Center to take a reading test.
    • Today, Nathan swims much better. At least he can swim one lap without stopping. However, he is still not good enough to advance to the next level.
  • October 28:
    • In Chinese school game day, Nathan enjoys all the games. He is so happy.

October 21, 2012 - October 27, 2012
  • October 27:
    • This morning, our family attend Tina and Justin's wedding. We all dress up. Upload a picture at the front page.
  • October 25:
    • This morning, Nathan has his fifth hematology doctor checkup appointment.
    • Thanks GOD: According to Nathan's blood test, his immune system is getting better. All indicators are in the lower end of the normal range.
  • October 23:
    • Today, Nathan starts his swimming class. He swims OK.

September 30, 2012 - October 20, 2012
  • October 20:
    • We go to church picnic. Nathan has a lot of fun.
    • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan can learn win or loss at game is OK. Just need to play with heart.
  • October 14:
    • Today, Nathan wants to attend one of his friend's birthday party. However, the time overlaps with his chiniese school. Luckily he only needs to finish his chiniese test. And his teacher lets him take his test before the class start. As the result, he finishes his test before the party time.
    • In the birthday party, all the kids are having a lot of fun. At the end, Nathan tries to do rock climbing. But he cannot climb any. I think his upper body strength is not fully recovered.
    • Next week, Nathan will start his swimming class again.

  • September 29:
    • For Mid Autumn Festival, Nathan tries to make a cake. Upload some pictures. Do you think he can be a future cake baker?

September 2, 2012 - September 22, 2012
  • September 21:
    • This morning, Nathan has his forth hematology doctor checkup appointment.
    • Thanks GOD: Nathan's blood test shows some improvement.
  • September 15:
    • Today Nathan joins Katy Youth Basketball League so that he can play basketball with other 2nd graders.
    • Then he takes a swimming placement test so that he can start swimming again at the end of October. He swims all four styles (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly) in front of the swimming instructor.
    • Nathan loses at least 50% of his swimming skill.

August 19, 2012 - September 1, 2012
  • August 28:
    • This morning, Katie and Nathan go to Texas Children's Hospital for Nathan's heart checkup appointment.
    • Thanks GOD: His heart shows a little bit of imporvement. At the result, the next appointment will be 6 months instead of 2 months.
  • August 27:
    • Today, it is the first day of Nathan 2nd grade class. He is so hungry after class. As soon as he comes home, he eats a lot of snack.
  • August 26:
    • Today, Nathan attends chinese school as 2nd grader. After class, I ask him if he wants to keep studying chinese. He says he love to.
    • Pray GOD: Hope tomorrow, Nathan will have a good time in his regular school.

August 5, 2012 - August 18, 2012
  • August 17:
    • Thanks GOD: According to Nathan's blood sample, his immune system is getting better.
  • August 15:
    • In the morning, we take Nathan to his school to register.
      Thanks GOD: Everything goes very smooth. His counselor informs us that Nathan will be on the 2nd grade without any test or exam.

July 29, 2012 - August 4, 2012
  • July 29:
    • After church, we go to chinatown for lunch. Then Nathan goes swimming with his friends. They are going back and forth between the big swiming pool and the kid's playing pool.
    • I ask Nathan to swim a lap. He can only swim 1/3 lap. I think he doesn't remember how to swim any more.

July 22, 2012 - July 28, 2012
  • July 27:
    • Tonight, Nathan and I play basketball at church. He still remembers how to play basketball. And he is very happy. He shows me how to throw the football also.
  • July 26:
    • In the afternoon, we bring Nathan to Houston Museum of Natural Science. He looks at all the dinosaurs. Some of them are very big.

July 15, 2012 - July 21, 2012
  • July 20:
    • Some of Nathan's friends come to our home at night and dance with Nathan. They are having a lot of fun. Nathan is thinking to ask them to dance again next week.
  • July 15:
    • In the afternoon, we have BBQ at Nathan's buddy home. Nathan and his friends play for long time. They are having a lot of fun. And Nathan invites them to come to our house playing xBox360 (dancing game).

July 8, 2012 - July 14, 2012
  • July 13:
    • Katie brings Nathan to his hematology doctor visit. They take some blood sample to test. The result shows everything increasing.

July 1, 2012 - July 7, 2012
  • July 4:
    • We would like to join church-wide picnic, but we decide not to. Since Nathan's immune system is not 100% recovery yet.
    • Instead, we do BBQ at home. And we watch firework at night too.
    • Mona brings an inflatable pool, so Nathan and Sammi are playing at the backyard. They are having fun but cold.
  • July 1:
    • All the students from VBS sing a song at both English and Chinese worship services. I think Nathan really enjoys singing with his friends.
    • We eat dinner with Nathan's god mother. He eats a lot since it is a buffet.

June 24, 2012 - June 30, 2012
  • June 29:
    • Last day of the VBS. Nathan and all of his classmates are singing at the stage. They are having a lot of fun.
  • June 25:
    • Nathan attends the first day of the Vacation Bible School (VBS). He must have a lot of fun. He keeps singing a song while taking a bath.
  • June 24:
    • Our family eat dim sum after church.
    • In the afternoon, we attend Sammi's pool side birthday party. Nathan swims the first time after AML. He seems like he forgets how to swim. However, he has a lot of fun with his friends.
    • We see a live alligator in the bayou next to the pool area.

June 17, 2012 - June 23, 2012
  • June 23:
    • Jay, Nathan, Katie, and I attend young couple fellowship for the first time since AML.
    • Nathan has a lot of fun playing with his friend, but he miss one of his best friend Addison.
  • June 19:
    • Jay, Nathan and Katie go to Jay's 4 month old check up. Finally, Nathan meets his pediatrics doctor.
  • June 17: (Happy Father Day)
    • Jay, Nathan, Katie, and I go to church together for the first time since AML.
    • Thanks GOD: Nathan is very happy and quickly adopts church life. He helps putting chair away and runs around in the gym.

  • From now on, I will try to update this once every week.

June 15, 2012 --- Very Good News
  • In the afternoon, Jay, Katie and I go with Nathan for his first hematology doctor visit after his AML treatment. They take some blood sample to test.
  • Thanks GOD: Very Good News. His doctor informs us all of his counts are going up and no sign of any leukemia cell.
  • And a nurse takes his central line out. And his doctor tells us that Nathan can go any place and do anything.
  • As the result, we all go out to eat to celebrate.
  • Funny Note: We let Nathan picks where to eat. He picks chinese buffet. And he eats a lot.
  • I think this is a very good father day's gift. Our family can finally go back to kind of the normal life again. He will attend CBC coming Sunday.
  • In the beginning, he will need to go doctor visit once per month for the first year.

June 12, 2012 - June 14, 2012
  • Finally, Nathan meets his buddy Addison in person the first time in 2012.
  • Pray GOD: Hope tomorrow (June 15, 2012) hematology doctor visit will have good news.

June 11, 2012
  • In this morning, Nathan and I go to Texas Childern Hosiptal at medical center for his heart follow up doctor visit. The result shows he has a little improvement. Thanks GOD: At least getting better.
  • Pray GOD: Hope his coming hematology doctor visit will give a full picture of his recovery plan and good news.

June 2, 2012 - June 10, 2012
  • Nothing special. Nathan is doing his normal stuff at home (playing and studying).
  • Pray GOD: Give wisdom and paitent to Katie and I so that we know how to get Nathan back to the normal life.

June 1, 2012
  • This morning, Nathan and I go to Texas Childern Hosiptal at Katy for his blood test.
  • Thanks GOD: Around noon, the nurse calls me and informs us that Nathan's blood test shows a lot of improvement. All the counts are looking good.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan's heart recovers a lot too. He will have a follow up exam on June 11, 2012.

May 30, 2012 - May 31, 2012
  • Nothing special.

May 29, 2012
  • Thanks GOD: In this afternoon, Nathan's doctor informs us that they cannot find any leukemia cell in Nathan's bone marrow test.
  • Pray GOD: Hope the coming blood test will show more improvement of Nathan's recovery.

May 23, 2012 - May 28, 2012
  • Nothing special. Just waiting for the result. Nathan is doing his normal stuff at home (playing and studying).
  • Good News or Bad News: Up to today, no news from Nathan's doctor. I guess either the test result is not ready or the result is very good.

May 22, 2012
  • Nothing special. Just waiting for the result.
  • My aunt from Canada comes and visits us.

May 21, 2012
  • This morning, I drop off Nathan, Katie, and Jay at the Texas Childern Hosiptal at medical center. Around 9:00am, they are waiting for Nathan's bone marrow test. Around 10:30am, Nathan is put to sleep and ready for the procedure. At 11:00am, Nathan can go home.
  • Thanks GOD: The procedure goes very smooth.
  • Now we are offically entering the most painful period which is waiting for the result. It might take couple days.

May 20, 2012
  • Nothing special. Just waiting.

May 19, 2012
  • In the afternoon, Nathan's teacher (Mrs. Clark) drops by our house and looks at Nathan's homework.
  • Then, Our family attend Pastor Ricky's birthday party at church. Nathan and I feel very different since this is the first time we go back church after 5 months of absent.

May 18, 2012
  • Today, Nathan has another blood test. The result is OK.
  • Bad News: Nathan will need to put to sleep again Monday for his bone marrow test.
  • Good News: One step closer to the end of Nathan's AML treatment.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan's doctor could not find any leukemia cell in Nathan's bone marrow test.

May 15, 2012 - May 17, 2012
  • Nothing special. Just waiting.

May 14, 2012
  • Nathan and I go to the Texas Childern Hosiptal at Katy to do his blood test.
  • Funny Note: A nurse tries to get Nathan's blood sample from his finger. However, Nathan does not let her. He askes her to use his central line instead. And I ask him the reason. He says that why she has to hurt my finger if she can do that with my central line. I guess he is right.
  • Unfortunately, his white blood cell count is still not high enough. Nathan's doctor askes him to do another blood test coming Friday (5/18/2012). And also, she might want Nathan to have his bone marrow test on coming Monday (5/21/2012) if Nathan has enough white blood cell count.
  • Pray GOD: Hope anything will be OK for Nathan.

May 13, 2012 (Mother day)
  • Happy Mother day to all mothers.
  • Nathan draws a mother day card to Katie. It is very cool.

May 10, 2012 - May 12, 2012
  • We are waiting for his next blood test (5/14/2012).
  • Thanks GOD: Nathan is doing his homework regularly.

May 9, 2012
  • Today Nathan has his first doctor visit. His white blood cell count is still not enough for him to have his last bone marrow test. They will test Nathan's blood again next Monday (5/14/2012).
  • Thanks GOD: Nathan's grandmother and his cousin arrive Hong Kong this morning.

May 8, 2012
  • Today Nathan's grandmother and his cousin go back Hong Kong in the earily morning before Nathan wakes up. Pray GOD: Hope they will have a safe trip back to Hong Kong.
  • Pray GOD: Hope tomorrow Nathan will have a very smooth first doctor visit after all four chemotherapy treatments.

May 7, 2012
  • Nathan's cousin stays home and plays with Nathan. They are having a lot of fun playing the Kinect Xbox 360.
  • Tonight, Nathan wants to sleep with his grandmother and his cousin again.

May 6, 2012
  • Doctor informs us that Nathan can go home today.
  • Thanks GOD: Finally Nathan can go home after the forth treatment.
  • Funny Note: When we pass by the game room, Nathan wants to play at the game room for the last time.
  • Nathan sleeps with his grandmother and his cousin tonight in his room at home.

  • Nathan's white blood cell count go up a little bit today.

May 4, 2012
  • Good News: Today Nathan's white blood cell count goes up a little bit.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan's white blood cell count go up faster so that he can go home sooner.

May 3, 2012
  • No change on Nathan's white blood cell count.
  • Nathan is very upset since tomorrow the movie Avengers starts showing in the theater. But he has to stay in the hosiptal.

  • Nathan's white blood cell count keeps the same today.
  • Play with his friends in the play room.

May 1, 2012
  • Good News: In this morning, the blood test shows some white blood cells. Hope Nathan's white blood cell count keeps raising so that we can go home.
  • Pray GOD: Hope the final bone marrow test does not find any leukemia cells. And AML never come back for Nathan.

  • Bad News: The other indicator shows zero today.
  • Good News: The blood test shows some baby white blood cells.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan can go home this week.

  • Good News: Nathan's doctor tells us that his other indicator shows some. She says that Nathan might be able to go home this week.
  • Nathan eats a lot of fish congee and fried dough.

April 28, 2012
  • Still no white blood cell count.
  • In the afternoon, Katie takes her mother, her niece, and Jay to visit Nathan. Nathan and his cousin plays all kind of games.
  • And his cousin will stay in the hosiptal with Nathan tonight so that I can go home.
  • And Nathan requests to have fish congee for tomorrow.

April 27, 2012
  • Today no blood test, that means no result on the white blood cell count. They will do the blood test tomorrow morning. Pray GOD: Hope a lot of white blood cells show up.

April 26, 2012
  • Today, the other indicator shows less than yesterday. Hopefully, it will go up again and will keep going up instead of up and down.
  • Nathan and I walk 30 laps today. And the way to keep him walking is listening to him how to play his game.
  • And today we play the wording game again. I randomly gives him 5 words. And he will try to put them into couple sentences or story. Sometimes, he makes up some very funny sentences or story.

April 25, 2012
  • Still no white blood cell count. However, his doctors believe his count should raise very soon. Since an other indicator shows up raising in his blood test.
  • This morning, Nathan wakes up earlier than usual. And Nathan and I walk 2 laps before I go to work.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan can go home this weekend.

April 24, 2012
  • Still no white blood cell count.
  • While Nathan and I walk, he keeps telling me how to play his new ipad game. And his zoo is getting more animals and value.

April 23, 2012
  • Still no white blood cell count.

April 22, 2012
  • Still no white blood cell count.
  • Nathan and I start walking early today. As the result, he walks more than 30 laps today.
  • We spend some time drawing today. He draws couple sharks and couple pokemons. I think they look very good.
  • Jay is looking at Nathan while Nathan is eating his happy meal.

April 21, 2012
  • Still no white blood cell count.
  • Nathan goes to the game room playing wii again today.

April 20, 2012
  • Still waiting for the white blood cell count raises.
  • Bad News: While chemotherapy treatment, Nathan's heart develops a minor problem. The heart doctor team tries to use a medicine to prevent Nathan's heart from getting wrose.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan's heart can recover.

April 19, 2012
  • Still no white blood cell count.
  • Funny Note: This morning, one of his nurse asks him to draw a fish for her. Since she likes Nathan's fish drawing. Nathan tells her that he is on vacation from drawing. Then she offers him $5 dollars for the drawing. I cannot believe what Nathan answers her. Nathan answers her how about $20 dollars. We all laugh. And his nurse tells him that he can be a good salesman in the future.

April 18, 2012
  • Still no white blood cell count.
  • Pray GOD: Today, Nathan's doctors send him to do ultrasound of his heart. Hope the chemotherapy treatment did not cause a lot of damage to Nathan's heart.

April 17, 2012
  • Nothing special. Just waiting.

April 16, 2012
  • Nothing special. Still waiting for the white blood cell count raises.
  • Good News: Nathan has no fever.

April 15, 2012
  • Thanks GOD: Nathan does not have any fever since yesterday afternoon.
  • So far no white blood cell count and no fever.
  • Nathan is very happy to receive a flower bed. The flower bed looks very cool. He says he misses all of his friends. Pray GOD: Hope he can go home, school, and church soon.
  • Funny Note: While he is watching the movie "The Avengers" trailers, he is asking if he can watch that movie with big TV. At first, I think he wants to go home and watch that movie with a bigger TV since the TV at the hospital is so small. At the end, I find out that "Big TV" for him is the screen in the moive theater. Hopefully, by May 4, 2012, he is at home and allow to go anywhere so that I can bring him to watch "The Avengers" at cinema ("Big TV").
  • Nathan walks more than 20 laps today.

April 14, 2012
  • Nathan spends couple hours in the game room playing wii with his friends.
  • Nathan is very happy playing monopoly game with Connie and his cousin from Hong Kong.

April 13, 2012
  • Nathan still has fever today. The highest is about 103F. It is up and down since doctors give him tylenol.
  • Thanks GOD: Nathan pass the academic examination.

April 12, 2012
  • Bad News: Nathan has fever today.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan can recover faster so that we can go home sooner.

April 11, 2012
  • Nathan plays at the game room with his friend. And one of the Texas Childern Hosiptal worker brings a lot of kids to 4th floor to play. Nathan has a lot of fun.
  • So far no white blood cell count and no fever.

April 10, 2012
  • According to Nathan's doctors, his white blood cell count drop to zero.
  • Pray GOD: Protect Nathan from getting any illness while his body is defenseless.

April 9, 2012
  • Nathan stays in the game room playing Super Mario with his friend for couple hours. He is very good in that game now after couple months of training.
  • This wednesday, Nathan will have his first academic examination in HISD. Hope he will pass.
  • He uses his creativity and Lego to build a lot of stuffs. I think I should take some pictures and post them here.
  • Funny Note: For the past couple weeks, Nathan did not play any free Angry Bird game. He claims he finished all the free levels. And he wants to buy the new version Angry Bird Space. I tell him if he can get all 3 stars on all the levels I will buy that. At first, he says that is impossible. I tell him nothing is impossible as long as you put your mind into it. Within 2 hours, he shows me that he gets all 3 stars in one of the Angry Bird free game. WOW.

April 8, 2012
  • Thanks GOD: Finally, Nathan's white blood cell count drops near zero. And also, he does not have any fever yet.
  • A nonprofit organization organizes an Easter Egg hunt at the hospital. Nathan collects 2 baskets of egg. After he opens all the eggs, he collects 2 bags of candy. And I ask him to give some out. He says yes. And he is so happy.
  • Nathan's God parents (Helen and Matthew) come visit him. And they play with him. He is very happy.

April 7, 2012
  • Still waiting for the drop and raise.
  • Nathan meets with Jay again today. However, Jay sleeps most of the time.
  • Nathan walks a lot today. While he walks, he talks about his new video game, his Lego, and more... Then I try to give him couple english words and ask him to make sentences or story. Most of the times he makes funny sentences or story. It is fun.

April 6, 2012
  • Nothing special. Still waiting for the drop and raise.

April 5, 2012
  • Nathan just does all the normal stuff. Watching TV, playing Video, walking laps.
  • Nathan goes up to 16 floor (pre-teen game room) again today. He has a lot of fun playing video game and table soccer.

April 4, 2012
  • Thanks GOD: Around 5am, Nathan takes the last dose of his 4th chemotherapy treatment.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan will not need any more treatment.

April 3, 2012
  • Thanks GOD: So far Nathan doesn't have any problem with this treatment.
  • First time, Nathan goes up to 16 floor (pre-teen game room). He has a lot of fun playing video game and table soccer.

April 2, 2012
  • Today is the first time katie comes stay with Nathan after Jay's born.
  • Thanks GOD: At this morning, Nathan finishes his 4th day of 4th chemotherapy treatment. Two more days to complete this treatment.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan's white blood cell count will drop and raise very quickly this time so that he can go home sooner.

April 1, 2012
  • Around lunch time, Nathan takes a medicine. That medicine makes him very sleepy. He sleeps almost 2 hours. I try to wake him up around 1 hour. He says he wants to keep sleeping. However, when I mention about game room is open. He jumps up and requests to go to game room ASAP.
  • He spends almost 2 hours in the game room. He makes 2 new friends who like playing Super Mario.
  • Katie, Katie's Mom, Jay, and Connie come visit Nathan. And also, bring a lot of chinese food. Nathan eats a lot.
  • And also, Katie's Mom and Connie walk with him for 11 laps.
  • He is very happy. And he talks a lot while I walk with him tonight after they leave.

March 31, 2012
  • Katie, Katie's Mom, Jay, Connie, Brian, and Bonnie come visit Nathan.
  • Nathan requires to hold Jay. And we takes some pictures. More I look at Jay, more he looks like Nathan.

  • Nothing special.

March 29, 2012
  • Around 7:00am, Nathan and I leave home and go to Texas Children Hospital.
  • Good News or Bad News: A heart doctor finds out Nathan's heart has some early adnormal markers by using a very new standard. However, Nathan's doctors believe that is not too bad for AML patient like Nathan. Since the new standard does not have enough data to prove anything yet.   • I really don't understand that why we have to wait until 6:00pm in the hospital's clinic in order for the hospital assigns a room to Nathan.

  • Around noon, Nathan goes into the operation room for the bone marrow procedure.
  • Nathan eats a happy meal an hour after his operation finish. However, he throws up.
  • Thanks GOD: Nathan can go home tonight. We arrive home around 8:30pm.
  • Bad News: Nathan will be going back to hospital on Thursday, March 29, 2012.

  • Nothing special. just wait for the white blood cell count to go up.
  • Right before midnight, Nathan eats a lot of snacks since he will not be able to eat anything until the bone marrow procedure finish.

  • Thanks GOD: Nathan's white blood cell count keeps going up.
  • Nathan walks more than 20 laps for the past couple days. While he is walking, he talks about his video game.
  • Nathan makes at least 2 new friends while playing wii in the game room.
  • Doctors inform us, Nathan will do the bone marrow test on coming Tuesday. Pray GOD: Hope they will not find any leukemia cells.

  • Today is Nathan's birthday. He wakes up so early since he wants to open some of his birthday presents.
  • Katie, Katie's Mom, Jay, Connie, Brian, Bonnie, and warren comes to celebrate Nathan's birthday.
  • And Nathan gives out 11 cupcakes to nurses and kids in the hospital. He is very happy.

  • Today, doctors inform us that Nathan needs to stay in hospital for his birthday.
  • Nathan is very sad. But I guess video game and TV is the best medicine for him.
  • Nathan's white blood cell count is up and down. Pray GOD: Hope his count can go up instead of up and down.

  • Bad News: The MRI scans result is not good. Doctors believe Nathan has some infection at his bottom. That means he will probably need to stay in hospital for his birthday.
  • His white blood cell count go back to zero.
  • Anyway, he is very happy today. He walks 30 laps today. While he is walking, he keeps talking about his Nintendo DS Game (Bakugan).

  • Since Nathan keeps complaining his bottom is hurting, doctors request him to do the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans to check. And they put him into sleep becuase of the long no body movement process within the noise tube.
  • Pray GOD: Hope the result of the MRI scans is normal nothing serious.
  • Nathan's white blood cell count increases a little bit from yesterday.

  • When I ask him to walk with a mask (His doctor requests him to put on a mask when he goes out of his room), he complains he can not breath due to the thing inside his nose and the mask.
  • However, he can breath with a mask while he is playing video game in the game room for 2 hours. I guess kid always finds excuse to not doing thing that parents want.

  • Today, no fever, but nose bleeding a lot.
  • Doctors try to put something inside his nose to stop his bleeding.
  • Pray GOD: Please stop Nathan's nose bleeding problem and raise his white blood cell count.

  • Nathan does not have a good night sleep. Since nurses are coming more frequently to check on his temperature. It makes Nathan very mad.
  • At dinner time, he eats a little bit food from chinatown.

  • At the afternoon, Nathan has a nose bleeding for 10 minutes long.
  • At night, Nathan has fever around 101F. And a doctor comes by and check on Nathan. She puts Nathan on two different antibiotics.

  • No fever, no itching from rash, and no white blood cell count.
  • This morning, Nathan's doctor agrees to let him free (without fluid line attach to him) if he can drink 3 bottles of water. And Nathan drinks almost 4 bottles of water today.
  • Today, Nathan plays Super Mario with another kid. They are talking and playing. They looks very happy.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan will not have any problem in this period of time (no white blood cell count) so that he can go home sooner.

  • Nathan's white blood cell count is dropping as expected.
  • This morning, as soon as the volunteer informs us that the game room is now open. Nathan is on hurry to go the game room and plays the video game (Wii and Xbox360). He spends couple hours in the game room.
  • After doctors check on him this morning, they agree to remove his fluid line. That means Nathan can move freely without any line attach to him.
  • Nathan's chest and back of his neck has rash. It is very itching.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan will not get any attack while he is in the low/no white blood cell count stage.
  • He walks 20 laps today.

  • Thanks GOD: Nothing special. Just waiting for the time to go home before the 4th treatment begin.

  • At 11:00am, the last dose of Nathan 3rd chemotherapy treatment begin. Now we are offically entering the most painful period which is waiting.
  • We have to wait for his white blood cell count drops to zero. Then go back up to minimum. So that Nathan can go home.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan's white blood cell count will recover faster. So that he can spend more time with Kaite's mom and sister at home before they go back HK.
  • Finally, Nathan can walk 20 laps again.

  • Thanks GOD: The bone marrow and the bladder mass biopsy are negative. That means the treatment is working very good for Nathan.

  • After talking to one of Nathan's doctor, the 3rd chemotherapy treatment for Nathan will end March 5, 2012. That means only 5 days treatment. Hopefully, he can stay home longer before the 4th treatment.
  • Today, his doctor removes his foley catheter tube that was added after Feb 23 procedure. That means his doctors believe his bladder is completely heal.
  • This afternoon, Nathan goes to the game room and play Wii super mario game.
  • Someone from Texas Children Hospital comes and draws a fish with Nathan. And She brings up a question. Why Nathan only uses Black and White to draw a fish. By the way, you can see the fish below. And do you know what kind of fish he draws?

  • Two hours after Nathan takes the first dose of medicine, he throws up.
  • At noon, Nathan seems to be OK. Eating his lunch, playing video game, and watching cartoon.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan will have good response on the 3rd treatment. And also, the shorter time to recover his white blood cell.
  • Thanks GOD: Katie's mother and sister arrive Houston safely. They meet Nathan at the hospital and Jay at home.

  • This morning, Nathan's doctors inform us that they will start the 3rd treatment sometimes today.
  • Normally Nathan doesn't eat hospital's breakfast. However, today Nathan eats a lot. And he requests to have eel with rice and ice-cream for dinner tonight.
  • Pray GOD: Hope the 3rd treatment will have GOOD response and end sooner. So that he can stay home longer between treatment.

  • Nathan and I arrive Texas Children Hospital around 9:30am for 9:45 appointment. We spend a lot of time waiting. Finally around 5:00pm, we are in the hospital room.
  • Doctors do not start Nathan's 3rd treatment yet. Since they are waiting for some lab results. May be start tomorrow.
  • Pray GOD: Hope everything is GOOD for Nathan.

  • This morning, I call Texas Children Hospital to schedule Nathan's check up appointment. They would not find any available time today. That means Nathan will go check up tomorrow morning.
  • Thanks GOD: This time, Nathan doesn't have any fever. And he stays home as much as he could. He trys to feed his brother Jay too.

  • In the morning, a nurse find out that one of Nathan's PIC line is leaking.
  • Around 10:30am, Nathan has to get an other procedure to replace his PIC line. It takes about 30 minutes.
  • Pray GOD: Hope there is no more procedure for Nathan for a while since he is so weak now. And also, hope all the test results will be GOOD.
  • Thanks GOD: Finally, Nathan can go home tonight for the weekend.

  • I wake up around 5:30am, so that Nathan can eat something before 6:00am.
  • Then Nathan and I wait until 4:30pm for doctors to do Nathan's procedures.
  • Around 8:00pm, Doctors finish three procedures. And Nathan is resting at his room with some pain and uncomfortable.
  • Thanks GOD: All of the procedures are finish without any problem.

  • In the morning, Nathan's doctors inform us that we can go home and come back tomorrow to do some simple procedures.
  • Around noon, the plan changes. Nathan has to stay in the hospital. Since his doctors want to do a better biopsy of the mass in his bladder.

  • By next Monday, Nathan's baby brother should be waiting at home for Nathan.
  • Nathan's white blood cell count is zero now. Pray GOD: Hope Nathan will not get any infection and sickness. And his white blood cell count goes up faster.

  • Good News or Bad News: Nathan's white blood cell count still above zero.
  • Nathan doesn't complain about having pain when pee-pee for the whole day. Katie and I think he eats/drinks something that trigger the pain. But doctors do not think so.
  • Record High: Today Nathan walks total 35 laps since he did not walk 5 laps yesterday.
  • Nathan is playing and talking a lot.

  • Since Nathan is getting better, I ask him to walk 30 laps instead of 20 laps. However, he is saying he should be walking 20 laps during weekday and 30 laps during weekend. He is a very good negotiator.

  • This morning, doctors inform us Nathan's red blood cell, white blood cell, and platelets are dropping as expected. But platelets count belows the minimum. That's why Nathan's nose bleeding so often.

  • In this morning, Katie asks Nathan's doctors when can we go home. A doctor tells her AML treatment is very intense. That means Nathan might not be able to go home in between treatments.

  • This morning, doctors inform us Nathan's red blood cell count belows the minimum.
  • Before and after dinner, Nathan walks many laps. Totally, he walks 20 laps.
  • Funny Note: While he walks, he counts the color floor tile. After he finishes blue color, some nurses ask him how many. And he thinks he is the only one knows the answer. He then counts the green color tile. I think tomorrow he will count the gray color and yellow color tile.
  • So far, no fever, no diarrhea, no nose bleeding, and very few hair left.

  • I get off early today since Katie has a doctor appointment.
  • Nathan plays a little bit with a person from Texas Children Hospital. While he is playing, he still pays attention to the TV. After she leaves, I try to teach him some manner. Hope he can understand.
  • Before dinner, I ask Nathan to walk. Same answer: how many laps. Pray GOD: Teach me how to change Nathan's thinking. I think he still doesn't really understand the important of exercise.
  • Thanks GOD: By the end of the day, Nathan walks more than 15 laps.

  • Today is the forth day of the second treatment. Seem like everthing go very smooth. Nathan doesn't have any problem with his heart. And his urine is OK.
  • After dinner, I force Nathan to walk 10 laps. However, he is crying. Finally, I give up. And we stop walking and go back his room.
  • After explaining, he asks me to walk with him more. Hope he does really understand the important of exercise.

  • Good News or Bad News: Doctors could not start the second treatment because of not enough white blood cell count.

  • In this morning, next door baby keeps crying. It wakes me up couple times, but it does not wake Nathan up. I guess he is so tired. Hope Nathan can understand that sleep more will help him recover faster.
  • Good News: The report of Nathan's second bond marrow test still shows some abnomral cell, but not that much.
  • According to Nathan's doctors, for sure Nathan's second chemotherapy treatment will start tomorrow (Jan 27, 2012).
  • Nathan seems like very happy. He eats a lot at the dinner time. And he walks serveral laps.

  • Finally around 2:00am, they transfer Nathan back to 9th floor.
  • Seems like Nathan will stay in the hospital to wait for the second chemotherapy treatment start.
  • Around 3:30pm, Doctors inform Katie that Nathan can start the second chemotherapy treatment on Friday (Jan 27, 2012).
  • Pray GOD: Hope the second treatment will have good result. And hope we can go home more than 1 day after the second treatment.
  • Thanks GOD: Nathan seems like recover very well. We talk almost 10 laps tonight. And he has more power.

  • Katie spends the whole morning tries to get all of Nathan's medicines
  • Nathan has a lot of fun playing his toys and watching TV in the morning.
  • Around 6:00pm, Nathan has a fever (101F). Katie calls the hospital, and they ask us to bring Nathan to the emergency room. When we arrive the emergency room, they check Nathan's temperature. It is normal. But they still want to do some tests to for sure Nathan is OK.
  • We are at the emergency room for the whole night.

  • Due to Nathan's low white blood cell count, doctors still thinking about letting Nathan go home for couple days or not. That means still HOPE. Pray GOD for the chance to go home.
  • Doctors keep checking Nathan's urine for blood and virus. If nothing change, they will remove his tubes either today or tomorrow.
  • Good News: Finally, doctors remove Nathan's two tubes around noon. And inform us we can go home tonight if no sign of problem.
  • Thank GOD: Nathan can go home after more than a month living in hospital.
  • Finally, We leave hospital around 9:00pm. And Nathan needs to go check his white blood cell count coming Friday.
  • Thankful Note: We came to hospital with two small bags of stuff. But we leave with at least 2 big shopping carts of toys, books, DVDs, cards, and posters.

  • Depends on Nathan's pain level when pee-pee and any blood in the urine in the next 1-2 days, doctors will determine if they can remove those two tubes and when.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan will have no problem with removal of those two tubes.
  • Good News: Doctors are thinking to let Nathan to go home couple days. Since his white blood cell count is increasing. They just need to see how he is doing for the next 1-2 days to decide.

  • In the afternoon, the nurse caps Nathan's two nephrostomy tubes.
  • Nathan's white blood cell count is still low. The sceond chemotherapy treatment needs to wait. In the means times, if the capping is not creating pain and blood in the urine. Doctors plan to remove those two tubes before the second treatment.
  • Nathan does not want to walk today, since he complains his hip bone area is hurt due to yesterday procedure.
  • Brian, Connie, and Christopher come over to have a pre chinese new year dinner with Nathan. And have a little game with him after dinner. He is so happy.

  • Nathan and Katie wait for the whole morning to do the bone marrow extraction procedure. Finally, at 1:00 pm they inform Katie they are going to transfer Nathan to the surgery room. However, the surgery actually starts around 4:00pm. Very long wait!
  • After the procedure, Nathan is very hungry. He eats almost everything the hospital's dinner set. It is the first time he eats that much hospital's food.
  • Thank GOD: The bone marrow extraction procedure goes very well.

  • Good News or Bad News: For the past few days, Nathan's urine does not contain any blood. Doctors try to cap his two nephrostomy tubes again today.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan will not have that much pain because of capping his two nephrostomy tubes.
  • Tomorrow, they will put Nathan to sleep in order to extract his bone marrow for testing. I think Doctors want to remove his nephrostomy tubes while he is sleep.
  • He walks 4 laps after dinner.

  • This morning, Katie and I go to Nathan's school to meet with his teacher and the homebound teacher. However, they cannot send the homebound teacher outside KISD area.
  • I think Nathan will love to see how many cards and gifts his classmates give him. And also, a hugh poster.
  • Pray GOD: Hope the process of transferring from KISD to HISD is going smooth. So that Nathan can keep up with the school work.
  • Doctors find virus in Nathan's urine.
  • Funny Note: I ask Nathan to walk at the hallway for 2 laps. At first, he complains and wants to walk 1 lap. After finishing 1 lap, he decides to walk 1 more lap. At the end, he walks totally 3 laps.

  • Good news, his poo-poo test result shows negative. However, it requests second test. If the result of the second test is negative also, Nathan will be free to go out of his room. I guess bad news for Nathan beacuse he needs to walk more.
  • Around 10:30am, doctors tell Nathan that he can go out of his room without the second test.
  • Doctors also inform us, Nathan will do the bone marrow test either Thurday or Firday. Pray GOD: Hope they will not find any leukemia cells.
  • Thank GOD: Nathan's white blood cell count is increasing.
  • Before dinner, Nathan and I walk outside his room for 10 minutes. At first, he doesn't want to, but at the end he feels very happy.
  • Right after dinner time, nurse checks Nathan's temperature. It is almost 102F. Right away, the doctor gives him tylenol and adds an antibiotic to Nathan medicine list. And his temperature does back to normal around 11pm.

  • Today, Nathan is not in a good mood. Whatever I ask him to do, he will refuse such as walk, take a sponge bath, or sleep.
  • So far, he losses almost all of his hair at his back.

  • At noon, I go to chinatown to buy some dim sum, since Nathan and I want to have some for lunch. And he eats some but not a lot.
  • Today, I force Nathan to walk several times, and totally I think he walks more than 30 minutes inside his room.
  • Doctors ask the nurse to collect some poo-poo to test. Pray GOD: Hope they can not find any bad stuff in Nathan's poo-poo. So that he can go out of his room.

  • He still complains the pain after pee-pee, But it looks like the pain is very mild.

  • Today, nothing special. I guess that means good news for us.
  • The test result for white blood cell count shows Nathan has a little bit. However, his doctors still consider zero.

  • Today, Katie and I will be tested for potential Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) donor for Nathan. As this point, Nathan's doctors just want us to tested since they do not know if Nathan will need the BMT or not. And it takes about a month to get the test result.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan does not need BMT.
  • Hopefully, Nathan can do some study instead of watching cartoon all the time.
  • Before Nathan goes to sleep, Katie and I ask him to walk inside his room. He says he doesn't want to since he is in pain. Thanks GOD, after talking to him for a while, he finally agrees to walk a little bit. While he and I walk inside his room, he decides to walk more. At the end, he walks about 45 minutes. Katie and I are very happy to see him walk.
  • So far, he is OK except lossing hair and sometimes having pain when pee-pee.

  • His doctors explain to him how to use the button to get pain medicine (morphine). Then right after Katie presses the button once, Nathan tries to press the button again by himself.
  • Sometimes, I think he doesn't need the pain medicine. Just like he doesn't need that many toys. And he knows if he complains to the nurse about the pain, nurse will ask katie and I about giving him the pain medicine.
  • Pray GOD: Hope Nathan can understand when to use the pain medicine instead of using even he doesn't need to.
  • So far, no fever, no diarrhea, no white blood cell, just nose bleeding sometimes, and lossing hair.

  • Due to the pain, his doctors order an machine for Nathan to inject morphine into his body by pressing a button.
  • Doctors still do not let Nathan go out of his room. Hopefully, he can go out and walk around soon.
  • Nathan starts lossing his hair now. We are talking to him to cut all his hair.
  • Funny Note: After the Nurse changed his cap from his central line, she gives him the extra mask. Then he puts the extra mask on the winnie the pooh (see the pictures below.)

  • Nathan still has a lot of pain after pee-pee. Hopefully, it will become better when time pass by.
  • The nose bleeding still come and go. Sometimes, it takes very long time to stop. So far, if his blood clot come out faster, the nose bleeding will stop faster.

  • Doctors decide to uncap Nathan's two nephrostomy tubes, since his urine contains blood after cap. They do not want to make the mass in bladder get worse.
  • Nathan is having a great night sleep. So as Katie and I.

  • Doctors request to cap Nathan's two nephrostomy tubes the second times. Beacuse Doctors want to remove those tubes asap. They don't want Nathan to get infection while Chemotherapy treatment beacuse of those tubes. It is very painful for Nathan to go pee-pee. Hopefully he will be OK. So far, he does overcome the pain.
  • He walks inside his room for 5 minutes.
  • When Katie and I eat dinner, he surprisingly asking to eat some pork spare rib. Today is the first time I see him eating that much after entering the hospital.

  • Nathan has nose bleeding serveral times today, the longest one last for almost an hour. Katie, nurses, doctor, and I take turn to keep pressure and ice to his nose. However, the bleeding seems to stop a second, but it starts again for several times. While the nose bleeding, Nathan keeps complain there is something in his throat. Finally Nathan spit out a big piece of blood clot. Then the nose bleeding stop in a second. He then go to sleep.
